The Raven

Ash was relaxing in the pub of the inn she was staying at, enjoying a mug of ale. It had been a long and exhausting day, and this short moment of relaxation was like a piece of heaven.
"Raven, I believe you are called," came a low-pitched, but somewhat nasally voice beside her. She looked over, annoyed at being disturbed.
"I am called many things. That is one of them," she said nonchalantly to the man. He was rather small, and wore rumpled, yet high-quality riding cloths. Two guards stood behind him, in plainer clothing. She could tell they were guards, not by their stature, which was on the slim side, but by the way they kept their eyes not only on her, but on the entire room.
"My master sent me to find you. He wishes to hire your services. Are you interested in work?"
"Usually," she murmured. "If my fee is met."
"A woman of your caliber would be quite expensive. This is understood, and will not be an issue. So, do you accept the job?"
"Accept what job?" She asked, with a slight edge to her voice. "I don't hire on blindly."
"No, no, of course not. But it is a small matter, and will require only time and a little effort."
"Then you don't need me," Ash said, standing up. She drained the rest of her ale in one swallow and dropped the cup onto the table. The man looked suprised at being dismissed, but he only gaped at her.
Just as she was almost out the door, she felt a hand firmly encircle her arm. She turned and glared up at the man that held her. He was one of the guards, and he looked pissed.
Why do they always get like this when I turn them down? she thought. I was hoping this day was over, but it looks like the night has only just begun.
"I would advise you to let go of me, before I have to hurt you," Ash growled, staring into the mans eyes and giving him 'the look'. That glare of pure maliciousness that normally sent people scurrying as fast as they could in the opposite direction. But this guy only laughed. "You don' scare me, sweetheart. The boss said I cou'd have a lil' fun wit' you, an' tha's what I aim to do," he said with a leering grin.
"That's what you think you dumb bastard," she snarled, twisting her arm out of his grasp and bringing her foot swiftly up between his legs as hard as she could. He squealed like the pig that he was and rolled to the floor, clutching his groin.
Ash grinned mockingly. "You won't be having fun with anyone for awhile, 'sweetheart'," she said with a vicious laugh on her way out the door.
Once she was outside, she didn't stop until she was out of sight of the inn. Then she paused to catch her breath and calm herself. Idiots like that were what was wrong with her; they raped her when she was a child, gave her scars, and killed Tamson, the only man that had ever shown her kindness. She fought herself not to go back there and hack the man to little bloody pieces with Tamson's sword. Aislyn was proud of herself, though; she had managed to teach the guy a lesson without mortally wounding him. That was a feat, for her.
She rested her back and head against the cool stone wall behind her and looked up at the sky, drawing on the beauty of the stars to help calm her boiling blood.
She would go back to the inn later to collect her things, and retreive her horse, Shadowbringer, who was tethered to the hitching post outside. She worried about him, but figured he would be fine. She had filled his oat-bag as she was approaching the inn, and the water trough was full. Besides, she wouldn't be gone that long, she only needed to walk around and cool down before she went back.

Kad Brace

The black mustang trotted warily across the path. I sat straight with my blades handle close to my reach. I was heading to a local inn where I would stay with my younger companion until my master arrived. We had nearly arrived when I saw a fretful looking woman. I pulled my mustang, Midnight, to a halt in front of her."Are you alright?" I asked gently. Since this was a fellow female I was going to play nice. I could feel Lana's desperate grasp around my waist tighten. She had never ridden a horse before and she seemed terrified of falling. I ignored her for the moment and kept my attention split between the inn and the woman.

Lana: I was terrified of hieghts. When Kad lifted me into the air like a sack of potatoes, I thought I was going to die. Now, riding, high above the soft land, I was holding onto Kad for dear life. I would not let go. " Where are we going anways?

Aspasia

I walked alone through the streets, with no horse or guard. That was expected though, i was a lowly peasant. I saw a woman and a girl on a horse, speaking to a walking girl. I stopped. Who were they? That didn't matter much though. I walked up to them softly and said quietly,
"hello."

I looked around, wondering where the voice had come from. then I looked to the ground. My head swam and I felt my stomach clench. Bad Idea. I closed my eyes and layed my head softly on Kad's shoulder. Ohhh, why did I look down? I thought if I had to sit any longer on an animal who could smell my fear I might pass out cold. Or had I already done that and this was a bad after effect? My head hurts. . .

I felt Lena go almost limp behind me. I sighed amused and put my right arm behind her back to hold her to my own. I looked back at the teary eyed woman."Is something wrong? Is there anything I can do to help?" I asked calmly my voice full of concern. I looked into her eyes, the fear in them was quite visible. The horse below my whinnied and pawed at the ground. I held tighter to Lena for fear she might fall off.
